Oura Archipelago

The amazing Oura archipelago is filled with memorable sceneries and sunshine. Thanks to sea climate, the sun warms the archipelago also on those days, when the skys of the continent are covered in clouds.

According to an old saying, in Merikarvia, and, especially in Oura, there are a hundred sunny days more than in the inlands.

The Oura archipelago is part of Natura 2000 protected area network. It is located off Merikarvia, about eight kilometres from the shore.

Particularly the avifauna fascinates nature enthusiasts; it is possible to spot white-tailed sea eagles and cormorants in Oura.

The Oura archipelago can be reached by a boat that leaves at Krookka marina. The Ouraluoto island, owned by the municipality of Merikarvia, is a recreational area for public use. The Ouraluoto island was used as the base of pilotage service until 1968.

The former pilot station of the island is now rented for guests. On the island, there is also a sauna, a beach with sandy bottom, campfire sites, outdoor chairs and tables, and tent places. Regular transportation to Ouraluoto is organised on Fridays and Saturdays from June to July, and on Saturdays in August. At other times, boat transportation should be booked separately. The boat leaves from Krookka marina, next to Restaurant Rantahuone. The boat stops off also at Mericamping guest marina to take or leave passengers. On Fridays and Saturdays the boat leaves at 1pm and comes back about 16.30 pm.
